Tipping Off: Maryland won its season opener for the ninth straight season and improved to 19-3 in season-openers under Gary Williams ... The Terps are 22-0 in home-openers under Gary Williams, part of a 33-game streak of successful home debuts ... The last Terps loss in a home-opener came in an 80-79 loss to Notre Dame on Nov. 27, 1976.
Doubling Up: Jordan Williams contributed 17 points and a game-high 15 rebounds against Seattle. It was the third straight double-double for the sophomore (dating back to last season) and ninth of his career. The sophomore also hit 5 of 6 free throws and played 32 minutes without committing a turnover. Williams has now led Maryland in rebounding 12 of the last 13 games.
Maryland Debuts: All six Maryland newcomers made their debut in the win over Seattle. Point guard Terrell Stoglin led all the newcomers in scoring with 15 points (9 of 9 free throws) while chipping in five assists. Pe'Shon Howard had a game-high eight assists and just three turnovers in 24 minutes.
More for Mosley: Sean Mosley scored a game-high 21 points, the fourth career 20-point game of his career. The junior captain made 8 of 10 at the line and was 6 of 8 from the field.
Free Throws: Maryland hit 33 of 41 free throws in the game (80.5 percent), including 24 of 27 (88.9 percent) in the second half. The most free throws the Terps made in a game last year was 24.
Under the Mark: Maryland held Seattle to 36.4 percent shooting on the evening. The Terps were 17-1 last season when holding opponents under 40 percent.
Minutes To Be Had: The five newcomers that played in the first half - Berend Weijs, Mychal Parker, Terrell Stoglin, Haukur Palsson and Pe'Shon Howard combined to play 34 minutes. That was partly due to foul trouble for Adrian Bowie and Sean Mosley. Bowie was limited to just three minutes in the first half before going to the bench with two fouls; Mosley played 13. Still, the freshmen took advantage of the opportunity, mainly Howard, who had four points, five assists and just one turnover in 13 minutes in the first half.
Balanced Attack: Eleven different Terps scored in the game, with 10 making at least one field goal. Nine Terps had scored by halftime, including eight with a field goal.
Tidbits: Maryland scored over 100 points for the first time since Feb. 27, 2010 against Virginia Tech, a 104-100 win in 2OT. The last time Maryland scored 100 points in regulation was Jan. 19, 2010, a 106-55 win over Longwood. The last 100-point game in an opener was a 102-75 win over Hampton on Nov. 7, 2006 ... The Terps have now won 23 straight games when leading at halftime ... Maryland outscored Seattle in the paint 56-44 and 22-14 in fast break points ... There were 10 ties and six lead changes in the game, all of which occurred in the first half.
Game Trends: The first 12 minutes of the game were back and forth as neither team scored more than two field goals in a row without an answer from the other ... the first significant run came with the game tied at 32. Maryland had a 7-0 spurt to take a lead it wouldn't surrender. James Padgett had a layup and a dunk, Cliff Tucker had a layup on a fast break, and hit one of two free throws with 3:38 left in the first half that gave Maryland a 39-32 lead. The Terps closed the first half on a 14-4 run to take a 10-point lead into the locker room.
- After Seattle pulled within 66-56 in 11:12 left in the second half, Maryland used a 14-2 run over the next 3:06 to pull away.
