Storyline
Maryland faces Boston College in its first game of Atlantic Coast Conference play in a Sunday matinee at Comcast Center. The Terrapins are in the second of a five-game homestand that will carry them through Finals Week, the holidays and into the new year. The game is the ACC opener for both teams.
Maryland starts the new season in the ACC as one of the top teams in the league over recent play. In the last 12 years, the Terrapins have a record of 120-72 in league games, second only to Duke (151-41), one win better than North Carolina (119-73) and more than Wake Forest (101-91). Those are the only four teams with more than 100 league victories since the 1998-99 season.
The Terrapins are 7-3 overall this year after a 99-56 victory over UNC Greensboro on Wednesday night. Maryland put four players in double figures, getting 23 points and 13 rebounds from Jordan Williams, 18 points in 19 minutes from Terrell Stoglin, 16 points and four assists from Adrian Bowie and 13 points with five rebounds and five assists from Cliff Tucker. The win over the Spartans was the most lopsided of the season for the Terrapins, who shot 52 percent from the floor.
Sophomore Jordan Williams continued his strong start to the season against UNCG. The double-double against the Spartans was his eighth of the season and fourth straight. He is tied with Kenneth Faried of Morehead State for the most in the nation. Williams comes into this weekend third in the ACC in scoring (17.7 points per game) and first in rebounding (11.8 per game).
Senior point guard Adrian Bowie had 16 points in 18 minutes against UNC Greensboro on Wednesday in a strong offensive outing. Now with a free-throw percentage of .903, Bowie shares the league lead in that category with Duke's Kyle Singler. Bowie has hit 17 of his last 18 free throws over the past five games and is averaging 9.4 ppg in that stretch.
Senior forward Cliff Tucker had 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals in 24 minutes against the Spartans. Tucker is second on the team in scoring at 11.2 ppg and leads the Terps with 12 3-pointers.
Terrell Stoglin continues to give Maryland strong scoring off the bench so far this year. He had 18 points in 19 minutes against UNCG, moving his scoring average back into the double-figure range at 10.7 ppg. He is hitting .423 from behind the arc this season.
Maryland faces Boston College in a December league opener for the fourth time since 2005. The Terps are 6-6 all-time against the Eagles.
