Storyline
Maryland returns to the court after the holiday break in a Wednesday-night game against North Florida. The Terrapins are playing their fourth game in a five-game homestand that spanned the final three weeks of December. The Terps are playing three games in a 27-day stretch that includes breaks of nine, six and five days between 12/12/2010 and 1/4/2011.
Maryland is 5-2 in its last seven games in a stretch dating back to 11/23. Maryland's four losses have been by a combined 20 points and include three losses at the hands of teams ranked nationally in preseason polls.
The Terrapins put six players in double figures in their last outing, an 89-50 victory over NJIT last Wednesday. It marked the first time since last season's game against Longwood (1/19/2010) that Maryland had six players score in double figures.
One of those players was sophomore center Jordan Williams, who posted his 10th double-double of the season and his sixth straight with 14 points and 12 rebounds against NJIT. Williams is one away from matching a seven-game streak of double-doubles put together by Joe Smith at the end of the 1995 season. Williams is third in the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring and first in rebounding.
Senior forward Dino Gregory has been playing well of late. He has raised his scoring average to 7.9 points and his rebounding average to 6.1 boards per game, now ranking 16th in the ACC on the boards. Gregory is eighth in the league with a 1.83 blocks per game average.
The Terrapins have an eight-game winning streak at home against non-conference opponents. This will mark the second time Maryland and North Florida have met in men's basketball. The Terrapins won at Comcast Center, 79-50, on 11/11/2007.
Scouting the Ospreys
North Florida comes into the game with a 4-7 record, including a 1-1 mark in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Ospreys are playing 13 of their first 16 regular-season games on the road. UNF has already played four nationally ranked teams (Pittsburgh, Missouri, Purdue, Texas) and heads to Kansas State on New Year's Eve.
The Ospreys split their first two conference games of the season, beating Florida Gulf Coast, 81-74 but losing at home to Stetson, 74-64.
Sophomore forward Andy Diaz is the lone North Florida player averaging in double figures, scoring 10.1 per game. He is hitting .529 from the floor this season. Diaz also leads UNF with a 5.5 rebounds-per-game average.
Sophomore guard Jerron Granberry averages 9.8 points per game, while senior guard Brad Haugabrook leads the team with 2.8 assists per outing.
