Maryland, now 6-2, makes its annual trip downtown to Verizon Center for the BB&T Classic. This year's opponent is Temple, which comes into the matchup at 4-2 after starting the season ranked in both polls.
The Terrapins won at Penn State, 62-39, on Wednesday night to capture their sixth straight victory in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Maryland held the Nittany Lions to 21 percent shooting from the floor, including a 3-for-27 (.111) shooting mark from 3-point range.
The defensive effort for the Terrapins against Penn State was notable. It was the first time the Terps held an opponent under 40 points since 1/6/2004 when Maryland beat UMES, 87-38. It was the sixth-best defensive effort for the Terps in the Gary Williams era. Penn State had just 19 points in the second half on Wednesday, marking the first time the Terps held an opponent under 20 for a half since 11/18/2008 when Youngstown State scored 18 in the first half in a 73-49 Maryland victory.
Sophomore center Jordan Williams had his 6th double-double in the game on Wednesday, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds. After games of 11/28, when Williams had five double-doubles, he was one of eight players nationally who had compiled five by that time. Williams leads the Terps in scoring (17.1 ppg) and rebounding (11.8 rpg) coming into the Temple game.
Dino Gregory and Terrell Stoglin each added 10 points in the win over the Nittany Lions, with both players scoring all 10 of their points in the decisive second half. Maryland outscored PSU, 36-19, after halftime to earn the win.
