COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Greivis Vasquez, who thrilled Maryland basketball fans for four seasons with his electric style of play, will have his jersey honored at Comcast Center in a ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 20 when the Terrapins play host to NC State.
Vasquez, now playing with the NBA Memphis Grizzlies, ended his career at Maryland as the school's second-leading scorer with 2,171 points. Arguably the most versatile player ever at Maryland, Vasquez is the only player in Atlantic Coast Conference history with 2,000 points, 700 assists and 600 rebounds.
Voted the ACC Player of the Year in 2010, Vasquez also was honored as a senior with the Bob Cousy Award, symbolizing the top collegiate point guard in the nation. He was a consensus second team All-American in voting by numerous panels before being selected by Memphis with the 28th pick in the first round of last June's NBA Draft.
Vasquez will be the 16th player and 17th Terrapin to have been honored with a banner in the Comcast Center rafters. A banner honoring head coach Gary Williams also hangs above the court.
A limited number of tickets are still available for the NC State game. Call the Terrapin Ticket Office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP to purchase tickets. Specific plans for the ceremony will be announced at a later date.
