COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team recorded the second-most hits allowed by No. 7 Florida State this season with 13, but dropped the deciding game of a three-game series Sunday afternoon at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium, 12-3.

The Terrapins (13-15, 2-10 ACC) started strongly on offense, matching single runs by the Seminoles (21-7, 8-4 ACC) in the bottom of the first and second innings on two-out RBI singles by Aaron Etchison and Tim Kiene, respectively.

However, the Seminoles pulled away with two runs in the third and three each in the fourth and six frames to grab a 10-2 lead. Florida State starting pitcher Gary Merians allowed six hits in five innings, but was able to work out of trouble to keep the Terps at bay.

Ryan Holland had two hits and drove in the Terps' final run with a single in the seventh. Charlie White had his second straight two-hit game and Alfredo Rodriguez also had two hits. Freshman Austin Kilbourne was 2-for-2 off the bench.

Mike McGee and Stuart Tapley each homered for the Seminoles.

Merians improved to 5-1 as the winning pitcher for Florida State. Reliever Michael Boyden allowed four runs on three hits and took the loss for Maryland, falling to 1-2.

Maryland travels to West Virginia Tuesday in mid-week action before resuming ACC play this weekend at Clemson.
