COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Sean Mosley scored a game-high 18 points, including the final seven of the contest, to help Maryland pull away from Georgia Tech and claim a 61-50 victory Sunday afternoon.
Terrell Stoglin and James Padgett each added 14 points for the Terrapins (12-4, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) who have won nine of their last 10 games and downed Georgia Tech for the 11th time in their last 12 meetings.
The Terps led by as many as 12 points in the second half before the Yellow Jackets (8-9, 1-2) cut the deficit to 54-50 with 3:08 left on a three-point play by Brandon Reed.
But Mosley, who had 16 points in the second half, answered on the following possession. With the shot clock winding down, the senior nailed a 3-pointer from the left wing. He hit all 10 of his free throw attempts, including four in the final 1:14.
Kammeon Holsey led Georgia Tech with 11 points. Daniel Miller and Jason Morris had eight points apiece, but leading scorer Glen Rice, Jr., was held to six.
Neither team shot the ball well from the floor. The Yellow Jackets hit just 3 of 17 3-point attempts and shot 33 percent from the field. The Terps went 34 percent from the floor, but hit 6 of 14 3-pointers and went 19 of 23 from the free-throw line, a season-best 83 percent clip.
Maryland scored the last six points of the first half to take a 24-19 lead into the locker room. A Georgia Tech turnover led to a Faust breakaway dunk just before the buzzer.
Georgia Tech's 50 points were the fewest by a Maryland opponent this season (60 by Radford on Dec. 23.
