Postgame notes following Maryland's 81-65 win over Boston College Thursday at Comcast Center.
Tipping Off: Maryland improved to 15-10, including 5-6 in the ACC while Boston College fell to 8-18 (3-9 in the league) ... Boston College had won four of the last five against the Terrapins entering this evening's game ... the Terrapins improved to 12-3 at home ... the Eagles (0-7) have yet to win away from Chestnut Hill, Mass. ... Maryland moved into a tie for seventh place in the ACC with Clemson.
Stoglin Hits Record: Terrell Stoglin's second 3-pointer of the game was his 65th of the year which set the Maryland single season record for a sophomore (64 by Greivis Vazquez in 2007-08). His first 3-pointer started a 14-0 run for the Terps with all those points coming from Stoglin. He ended the game with five 3-pointers and now has 68 on the season which ranks sixth on the school's overall single-season list.
Filling Up His Stat Line: Nick Faust scored 14 points and had a solid all-around game. The freshman posted career highs in assists (six) and steals (four), as well as four rebounds. Faust reached double figures in scoring for the eighth time this season and was just one off his career high (15 vs. Colorado [11/18] and Duke [2/11]).
Stoglin Gets 20: Terrell Stoglin had 19 points in the first half and looked to be on his way to eclipsing his career high of 33 (at Miami, 2/1/12). The sophomore ended the night with 24 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the floor, marking the 18th time this season he has reached the 20-point plateau. Maryland is 12-6 when Stoglin scores 20 or more points.
Strong Second Half: James Padgett scored all 15 of his points in the second half, as well as posting five of his eight rebounds. Padgett was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and hit double figures for 11th time this season.
First-Half Notes: The Terps took command of the game in the first half with a 25-2 run over a 5:58 span which turned a six-point deficit into a 29-12 lead (9:46 left in the first half) ... the Terps hit 8 3-pointers in the first half which was the most in any half this season (seven vs. Colorado in the second half, 11/18) ... Maryland's 33-14 lead with 7:53 left in the first half was its largest vs. an ACC foe this season (18 [34-16 at 3:54-1stH] vs. Wake Forest, 1/11) ... Faust's four steals matched the most by any player in one game this season (4 by Sean Mosley vs. Duke, 2/11; 4 by Terrell Stoglin vs. Clemson, 2/7). He ended the game with a career-high four steals.
Second-Half Notes: After Terrell Stoglin scored nearly half of the team's points in the first half (19 of 41), the rest of the team responded in the second half. James Padgett had 15 points, with Sean Mosley and Nick Faust scored eight apiece ... Maryland connected on 16 of 19 free throws (84 percent).
Tidbits: Maryland used a starting lineup of Terrell Stoglin, Sean Mosley, Ashton Pankey, Berend Weijs and Nick Faust for the first time this season ... Weijs made his fifth start of the year ... Alex Len matched a career-high with four blocks. He has three or more blocks in seven of 15 games this season.
