No. 19 Wisconsin Gets Past Maryland, 28-12

MADISON, Wis. – Junior 174-pounder Josh Snook notched Maryland's first-ever Big Ten match victory, but the Maryland wrestling team dropped a close contest to No. 19 Wisconsin, 28-12, Friday night in Madison.

The night marked Maryland's (4-2, 0-1 Big Ten) inaugural dual match in the Big Ten. Redshirt junior Geoffrey Alexander and sophomore Shyheim Brown also picked up wins for the Terps.

The dual began at 174 pounds. Josh Snook notched his historic win in dramatic fashion, turning a late double leg shot into a takedown to secure a 4-3 victory over Frank Cousins.

Senior Tony Gardner was up next for the Terps at 184 pounds. The senior had his moments, but Wisconsin's Ricky Robertson ultimately toughed out an 8-4 decision. The 197-pound contest saw senior Rob Fitzgerald take on Timmy McCall. Fitzgerald's third period takedown to take the lead was redacted after a review and the Badger senior nabbed a takedown of his own to take the decision.

Redshirt freshman Sean Twigg battled against No. 6 Connor Medbery at heavyweight, but was beaten by technical fall, 19-3, in the third period.

At 125 pounds, Wisconsin's Ryan Taylor rocketed out to a huge lead early and wore down redshirt freshman Jhared Simmons en route to a technical fall victory.

After Alexander picked up a forfeit win at 133 pounds, Brown took the mat at 141 against Rylen Lubeck. The two wrestled to a standstill after three periods, but Brown was able to draw a stall call from Lubeck late in the tiebreaker period to secure a 2-1 win.

Wisconsin's Andrew Crone earned a come-from-behind 7-5 decision with a late takedown of redshirt junior Shane Arechiga at 149 pounds. Redshirt junior Lou Mascola also wrestled a close match, but succumbed to a Seth Liegel takedown in the tiebreaker period to lose 10-8.

Consensus top-10 165-pounder Isaac Jordan finished off the meet for the Badgers, earning a fall over Tyler Manion at 5:57 to give Wisconsin a 28-12 victory.

The Terps return to action Sunday at Nebraska. Action is schedule to begin from the NU Coliseum at 2 p.m.
