GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland senior right hander Jake Stinnett, junior centerfielder Charlie White and redshirt freshman Brandon Lowe have been voted by the league's 14 head coaches to the 2014 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball team as announced by the conference office Monday.
Stinnett and White earned second-team honors, while Lowe earned a spot on the third team. It is the third straight season a Terrapin has landed on the all-conference team and it is the first time since 1984 that the Terps have had at least three players earn all-conference honors.
As Maryland's Friday night starter, Stinnett finished the regular season with a 6-6 record and a 2.53 ERA. The native of Vista, Calif., had an ACC-best four complete games including a league-leading two shutouts. Stinnett also posted 113 strikeouts, which ranks second in the ACC and is the third-highest single-season total in school history.
Stinnett threw the first of three no-hitters in the conference this season on March 1 when he blanked Massachusetts. A week after throwing a one-hitter against Bryant, Stinnett struck out nine en route to becoming the first Maryland pitcher to toss a no-hitter since Scott Swinson in 2008.
This season, Stinnett has earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors four times. The four weekly honors is the most by an ACC player since NC State's Mike Rogers accomplished the feat in 2004.
White, who is a two-time all-conference honoree, is Maryland's all-time stolen base leader and ranks second among active players in the league. White has 85 career stolen bases with 24 coming this season, one shy of the league lead.
The Naperville, Ill., native is hitting .295 in ACC play this season, second best on the team, and has seven doubles with a team-high 19 runs scored. With eight stolen bases in conference action, White is tied for fourth in the league.
Lowe, who missed the 2013 season with a knee injury, has emerged as one of the league's best hitters. Lowe ranks second in the ACC in hitting (.345) and on-base percentage (.468). Lowe's .469 slugging percentage leads the team and his 36 RBI is second on the club as well.
The Suffolk, Va., native has been even better in conference action. Lowe leads the league in hitting (.411) and on-base percentage (.510), and ranks second in slugging (.575) with eight doubles and two triples.
Florida State's D.J. Stewart earned ACC Player of the Year honors, while Miami's Chris Diaz and Virginia's Nathan Kirby shared ACC Pitcher of the Year honors. Miami catcher Zack Collins was named ACC Freshman of the Year with Virginia's Brian O'Connor selected as ACC Coach of the Year.
Miami and Clemson each had seven players voted first-, second- or third-team All-ACC, followed by Florida State with six selections. The Seminoles' four first-team selections rank second behind Virginia, followed by NC State with three, and Boston College, Clemson, Miami and North Carolina with one each.
