NEWBURGH, Ind. - The Maryland men's golf team finished its first Big Ten Championship appearance Sunday at the Victoria National Golf Course. Freshman David Kocher wound up tied for third, which was two-under par on the weekend with a score of 286 (70-68-72-76).
Kocher was named to the All-Tournament Team for his performance throughout the weekend. Senior Connor Tendall finished tied for 13th with his score of 294 (70-74-74-76), which was six-over on the tournament.
The Terrapins were tied for third after the first two rounds, but struggled in the third and fourth rounds and wound up tied for 10th.
"We got off to a great start, sitting in a tie for third going into the third round. That was right where we wanted to be but we didn't handle it as well as we could," head coach Jason Rodenhaver said. "To be an NCAA Tournament team we need more production from all five guys and this week we didn't get it consistently. David Kocher had a great finish making the All-Tournament Team and we are hopeful he gets a bid to participate in NCAA Regionals.
"The future is bright for our program. We've been rebuilding the program for the last four years. We return some high-quality players who've played a lot for us and we are going to add one of the best recruiting classes in the Big Ten. This will give us the much needed depth we've been trying to acquire for the last few years."
Freshman Joe Brooks finished with a score of 304 (73-76-78-77) and junior Tom Harris scored a 308 (78-75-81-74). Sophomore Victor Fox finished with a combined score of 323 (78-80-82-83).
