NEWBURGH, Ind. – The Maryland men's golf team finished third at the Big Ten Men's Golf Championship Sunday at the Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind.
The Terrapins went five-over par as a team in the final round Sunday with a score of 293. They went just two strokes over par as a team on the weekend, with a score of 866 (282-291-293), topping No. 31 Penn State, No. 32 Purdue and No. 42 Michigan State along the way.
“The guys played well this week” head coach Jason Rodenhaver said. “It was a great week for David Kocher, who finished in the top 10 in the Big Ten Tournament for the second straight year. Timothy Colanta and Joe Brooks both had their best-ever finishes as well. It's been a long spring, we've had some really great moments but we need to keep working on getting all five guys playing well consistently.”
Sophomore David Kocher shot an even 72 in Sunday's final round to finish tied for sixth in the standings. He earned a combined score of 213 (72-69-72), which was three-under total.
Freshman Timothy Colanta went one-over par with a 73 Sunday, to finished even on the weekend. His combined score of 216 (72-71-73) put him tied for 14th.
Sophomore Joe Brooks went one-under Sunday with a score of 71. He tied for 17th with an overall score of 217 (68-78-71), which was one-over par total.
Senior Tom Harris finished tied for 36th with an overall score of 225 (70-74-81) and junior Victor Fox earned a combine score of 228 (74-77-77).
No. 3 Illinois won the Big Ten title, earning a score of 838, which was -26 overall. Iowa finished second with a score of 851.
