COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After a perfect 5-0 week, the Maryland baseball team received two Big Ten weekly honors, announced by the conference Monday. Junior center fielder Zach Jancarski was honored as the Big Ten Player of the Week, while freshman left-handed pitcher Tyler Blohm was named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week.
Jancarski sparked Maryland's offense from the lead-off spot through the week, sporting a team-best .450 average, nine hits, six runs scored, three doubles, six RBIs and three stolen bases over the five-game stretch. He also slugged .600 with a .542 on-base percentage while notching four multi-hit games during the week.
The East Norriton, Pa., native raised his overall average from .250 to .321 and leads the Terps with six stolen bases and 15 runs scored for the season. He is currently on an 11-game reached base streak.
Blohm sparked against Bryant in the second game of a double header Sunday, tossing six shutout innings while allowing just three hits and matching his career-high with six strikeouts. The Severna Park native retired the first 11 batters he faced and did not allow a hit until the fifth.
The left-hander now sports a season-low ERA of 2.45 and is now 3-1 overall.
Maryland's last Big Ten Player of the Week was second baseman Nick Dunn in March of 2016. Dunn, RHP Hunter Parsons and outfielder Marty Costes (2x) all earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors last season.
