Davis-Allen Earns Senior CLASS Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Maryland men's lacrosse standout Isaiah Davis-Allen has been selected as the 2017 Senior CLASS Award winner in men's lacrosse.

Davis-Allen is the just the second student-athlete in Maryland history to win the prestigious award, joining men's basketball legend Juan Dixon (2002).

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.

“Being named the Senior CLASS Award winner is an incredible honor,” Davis-Allen said. “Everybody on that list is incredible both on and off the field in their local communities. My family and our coaches have always pushed us to not only be the best players possible, but also be the best men possible.”

Davis-Allen is one of the most respected student-athletes at the University of Maryland for his prowess both on and off the field.

“Our staff and our University is very proud of Isaiah for winning this award,” said Maryland men's lacrosse coach John Tillman. “It speaks to the type of person that Isaiah is because he's certainly a tremendous player, but also so much more than that. He's one of those guys who is always looking out for members of the local community and trying to make a difference.“

On the field, Davis-Allen is a two-time team captain and a two-time First Team All-America selection at short stick midfield – the lone first-teamer at the position both years. Davis-Allen has led the Terps to four NCAA semifinal appearances and two NCAA championship games while posting a 59-14 overall record.

“I'd like to congratulate Isaiah on this prestigious honor,” said Maryland director of athletics, Kevin Anderson. “Isaiah is a tremendous leader who has achieved excellence in all aspects of the student-athlete experience. We are incredibly proud of the legacy he will leave at the University of Maryland and he has an extremely bright future.”

Davis-Allen is heavily involved in the community, serving as the team's student-athlete liaison for Team IMPACT and welcoming honorary teammate, Fionn. He also volunteers in the offseason for PG Pride Lacrosse Club, which is a local team minutes away including many African-Americans. Other community service activities include reading to children at local schools, volunteering at Johns Hopkins Hospital, volunteering for school-aged child care and coaching for Blackwolf Lacrosse Club and SYC Lacrosse Club.

Davis-Allen is a geographical science major with a minor in geographic information science and was named a scholar-athlete in the fall and spring of 2015. He is a representative for all Maryland male student-athletes on the Faculty Athletic Council and the men's lacrosse representative for Maryland's Student Athlete Advisory Committee as well as the men's lacrosse team's student-athlete liaison for Team IMPACT.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ® , the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
