COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland basketball team ran alongside hundreds of students Monday night as the team kicked off its 100th season with the midnight mile at Kehoe Track and Field Complex. Forty-seven years to the day of legendary coach Lefty Driesell's original "Midnight Madness", the Terps honored his legacy in style joined by their classmates and supporters around the track at Ludwig Field.
"I wanted to come out because Lefty was inducted into the [Naismith] Hall of Fame this year and I wanted to honor him," said head coach Mark Turgeon as he addressed the students prior to start of the run. "But more importantly, we wanted to get around you guys. We wanted to get around the students. I wanted our players to mingle with you guys and have a good time with each other and I figured midnight was a good time for everybody."
