Coming off a big win at #15 Michigan, Maryland will travel to Columbus, Ohio for a match with Ohio State on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
QUICK HITS
• Maryland stands at 16-11 overall and 7-8 in Big Ten play, already matching the most wins the Terps have ever had in Big Ten play. Maryland has beaten Rutgers twice and Indiana and Iowa in straight sets, while also winning a five set battle with Ohio State and defeating Northwestern in four sets. This past Wednesday, Maryland earned its first ever road win against a ranked opponent, taking down #15 Michigan 3-0.
• Maryland is led by sophomore outside hitter Erika Pritchard who leads the Big Ten with 4.28 kills per set. Pritchard who has 411 kills, 240 digs and 52 blocks on the season and has 11 double-doubles this year.
• Sophomore setter Nicole Alford leads the team with 959 assists this season, at 9.99 per set. Freshman libero Allegra Rivas is first in digs with 446, at 4.65 per set. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Katie Myers leads the team in both blocks (106) and aces (48).
PRITCHARD & MYERS - TOP OF THE LEAGUE
• Sophomore outside hitter Erika Pritchard has had an impressive sophomore season, currently leading the Big Ten with 4.28 kills per set.
• Over the last nine matches, which include four against top-20 opponents, Pritchard has 152 kills at 4.78 per set. The sophomore was on fire in the Terps wins against Indiana and Iowa, posting 20 kills in each three-set victory, the most kills by a Terp in any three set Big Ten match since Maryland's joined the conference.
• Earlier the season at the Akron Invitational, the sophomore totaled 56 kills and 35 digs, recording a double-double in all three games en route to being named the tournament's MVP. The Middletown, Md. native has a double-double in seven of 12 contests this season.
• Redshirt freshman middle blocker Katie Myers is in front of the B1G with 48 aces at 0.50 per set and ranking highly in blocks with 106 at 1.10 per set. Myers has had three matches with five aces this season (South Carolina, New Hampshire, Northwestern).
TERPS UPSET #15 MICHIGAN IN STRAIGHT SETS
• In a complete team performance, the Maryland volleyball team (16-11, 7-8 Big Ten) upset No. 15 Michigan in straight sets (25-20, 30-28, 25-19) on Wednesday night.
• The Terps dominated at the net, totaling 13.5 blocks, led by six from freshman middle blocker Rainelle Jones and five from freshman middle blocker Katie Myers. Maryland notched 11 blocks in the second set alone, the most the Terps have ever had in a set in a Big Ten match.
• This marked the first road win over a ranked team in program history and the Terps first ever win over Michigan.
RIVAS EARNS BIG TEN HONORS
• For the second time this season this lastt week, freshman libero Allegra Rivas was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
• In the Terps two games against Purdue and Indiana, Rivas totaled 40 digs, at a Big Ten best 5.71 digs per set. The freshman managed 19 digs over four sets in the loss at Purdue on Friday before averaging seven digs per set for a total of 21, helping Maryland cruise to a straight set win at Indiana on Sunday.
• Rivas also earned the honor on September 24, after averaging a Big Ten best 6.17 digs per set in her first ever two conference matches against Rutgers and #3 Minnesota. After tallying 18 assists against Iowa, Rivas stands fourth in the conference at 4.65 digs per set and has totaled over 20 digs in six different matches this season, including three that only went three sets.
• With this honor, Rivas joins Michigan's Jenna Lerg as the only two players to earn Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week recognition twice this season and the first ever Maryland player to receive two honors in one season.
FRESHMAN IMPACT
• Maryland has gotten a lot of contributions from their freshman so far this season, with all three of them playing crucial roles.
• Middle blocker Rainelle Jones, the only freshman committed before the spring has started in all 27 matches and has totaled 0.94 blocks per set, playing a huge role defensively as well as offensively.
• Libero Allegra Rivas has also started in every match, making huge impact, ranking fourtth in the Big Ten with 4.65 digs/set and earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 24 and October 22.
• Outside hitter Emma Schriner stepped into a starting role on the outside as conference play began with an injury to Jada Gardner and has filled in with 78 kills and 38 blocks.
SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES
• Ohio State currently stands at 12-15 and 3-12 in the Big Ten.
• When the Terps and Buckeyes met earlier this season in College Park, Maryland won a five-set thriller. The Terps won the first two sets 25-22 before dropping the third and fourth. In a tight fifth, senior outside Liz Twilley notched the clinching kill to win it 17-15 for the Terps. Maryland had a season-high in aces in the match, posting 14 led by four Katie Myers and Samantha Syder.
• The Terps trail the all-time series with Ohio State, 10-4.
