COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore pitcher Tyler Blohm recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts in an eight inning start to lead the Maryland baseball team (11-12) to a series-tying 6-1 win over Stetson (19-4) on Saturday afternoon. 

Blohm notched his third win of the season on a superb outing, only allowing four hits and one walk while striking out 12 of the 28 batters he faced. The one run Stetson got off Blohm was unearned. 

Offensively, junior infielder Nick Dunn, junior outfielder Marty Costes and senior outfielder Zach Jancarski all put through two hits to total the team's six. Dunn slammed his sixth home run of the season in the eighth inning, with the ball just staying fair to the left of the right field foul pole.

As a team, Maryland drew seven walks and four hit by pitches, which led to many of the scoring chances.

Both teams were scoreless until the bottom of the third, with Blohm fanning six of the first nine batters. In the bottom of the third, the Terps got four free passes and two hits with two outs to take a 3-0 lead. Junior infielder AJ Lee was the first batter to get nipped, before Dunn followed with a single. Costes slapped one with just enough bounces to shortstop to beat it out and score Lee. After that, Biondic, Jancarski and Schiekofer all got hit with a pitch to put two more runs home.

Costes and Jancarski teamed up with doubles in the fifth inning to make the Maryland lead 4-0. The Terps would add one more onto that the following inning with four walks.

After Stetson picked up an unearned run to end the shutout in the seventh, Blohm extended his outing one more inning to the eighth. In the bottom half of Blohm's final one, Dunn cracked a solo shot to make it 6-1.

Kevin Biondic closed the game out in the mound in the ninth, recording one strikeout and getting assisted by a fantastic Richie Schiekofer grab against the fence for the final out. 

The series will be decided tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.
