COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- In front of a Pavilion-record 2,225 fans Saturday night, the University of Maryland volleyball team fell in three sets to No. 5 Nebraska in the XFINITY Center Pavilion.
"I was happy to have a crowd like that," Head Coach
Adam Hughes said. "I thought it was tremendous and I think we broke a record so it's good to have a huge crowd here. I'm a little disappointed in the first set, we had an opportunity maybe to make things interesting and we were trying to get the crowd involved.... That's an awfully good team so we understood that was something that could happen."Â
The 2,225 fans that came out to the Pavilion are the most in the gym's history, surpassing the previous record of 1,848 set against Wisconsin on Nov. 17, 2018.
Nebraska, the fifth-ranked team in the country, dealt the Terps their second three-set loss of the season (19-25, 16-25, 13-25).
Erika Pritchard led the offensive attack for Maryland, recording 10 kills and paced the team alongside
Rainelle Jones in blocks with four apiece.
Nicole Alford led the Terps with 16 assists on the night, while Sam Burgio got the brunt of the work on the back line with a team and season-high nine digs.
Next, the Terps will travel to Evanston, Ill. on Wednesday, Oct. 23 to take on Northwestern, before coming back home to face Penn State on Oct. 26 in College Park on the Main Court.
