#4 Maryland Faces Off Against #3 UConn Sunday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The fourth-ranked Maryland field hockey team (10-1) will host No. 3 Connecticut (9-1) Sunday at noon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission to the top-five matchup is free and parking is free as well.
• The first 100 fans in attendance at the game will receive an exclusive Maryland field hockey T-shirt. Returning Maryland field hockey campers will have the opportunity to take a postgame photo on the field and get a Maryland wristband for attending. Terp fans are invited to meet and greet the team and get autographs from their favorite student-athletes after the game.
• The Terps-Huskies matchup will be streamed around the world through BTN Plus. Fans can watch with their BTN Plus subscriptions, which start at $9.95 a month. Live stats will also be available.

RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW
• Maryland won at No. 5 Northwestern, 2-1, in double overtime Thursday. Kelee Lepage opened the scoring with her first goal of the year, just 5:08 into the match. The Terps held the Wildcats scoreless for over 57 minutes, but they tied it up with 2:21 to play. Freshman Emma DeBerdine stole the ball, took it the other way and scored in the 76th minute for the win.
• Sophomore Linda Cobano scored four of Maryland's six goals in two wins over top 20 teams last week. She was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for her first career weekly honor.
• Cobano leads the Terps with six goals this season, Madison Maguire has five and Bodil Keus and Emma DeBerdine each have four. Four other Terrapins have notched three goals, including Bibi Donraadt, Jen Bleakney, Kyler Greenwalt and Riley Donnelly. Eleven total Terps have scored.
• The Terrapins return eight of 11 starters from last year, including the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in Keus and the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in Bibi Donraadt. Keus also earned NFHCA First Team All-America honors.
• The Terps went 22-3 in 2018, advancing to their second straight NCAA Championship game. They won the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles as well.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
• No. 3 Connecticut is 9-1 this season and 2-0 in Big East play. The Huskies beat Boston University, 4-0, Sunday.
• Svea Boker is leading the Huskies with 10 goals this season.
• Maryland leads the all-time series with Connecticut, 7-2, and won both meetings last year. The Terps won 4-2 at Connecticut on Sept. 30 behind two goals from Bodil Keus and one from Bibi Donraadt. Maryland beat UConn, 2-1, in overtime in the NCAA Quarterfinals in College Park. Donraadt tied the game in the first half, then Madison Maguire scored in the 77th minute to send the Terps to the Final Four.
• Maryland and UConn have met in the last two NCAA Tournaments. Connecticut won the 2017 matchup, 2-1, in the NCAA title game, then the Terps took last year's.
MARYLAND IN THE TOP 10
• Maryland was tabbed as the No. 4 team in the country in the latest Penn Monto/Division I Coaches poll released Oct. 1.
• The Terrapins have been ranked in the top 10 for 186 of 218 weeks since 1999.

B1G TERPS
The Terrapins joined the Big Ten conference in 2014, after playing in the ACC for 31 years. Big Ten field hockey is the largest conference in the history of the sport in the NCAA with nine teams - Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers and Maryland.• The Terps are 132-39-3 (.767) all-time against Big Ten opponents.
• Head coach Missy Meharg is 114-19-1 (.854) vs. Big Ten opponents in her 32 years at the helm of the Maryland field hockey program.
• Since joining the league in 2014, the Terps are 49-8 in conference play.
• The Terrapins are 45-3 (.938) vs. Big Ten teams at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
• The Terrapins won the first Big Ten title for the University of Maryland with a 4-1 win over No. 14 Iowa on Nov. 1, 2014 in College Park.
HOME SWEET HOME
Since its opening in 2003, the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has provided the Maryland hockey program a huge home field advantage.• The Terps are 184-20 (.902) all-time at the Complex.
• Maryland won 38 straight games at the Complex from Oct.11, 2008 through Oct. 14, 2011. The streak ended with a 5-2 loss to then-No. 1 Old Dominion.
• The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has played home to 28 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games and has played host to three Final Fours (2007, 2010, 2014). The Terrapins are 25-3 in those games and won the 2010 national title on their home field.
PACK THE HOUSE
• The Maryland field hockey team has increasingly attracted more and more fans to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex season after season. The Terrapins have led the nation in attendance in five of the last eight years.
• An NCAA-record crowd of 2,381 came out to watch as Maryland beat North Carolina 3-2 in double overtime for the 2010 national championship at the Complex.
THREE TERPS EARN PRESEASON BIG TEN HONORS
• Graduate student Jen Bleakney, senior Madison Maguire and junior Bodil Keus earned Big Ten Preseason Honors to start the season. The full list, click HERE.
• Keus was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year last season and earned NFHCA First Team All-America honors. She scored nine goals with seven assists and three defensive saves in 2018.
• Maguire notched seven goals, including an overtime game winner over No. 5 Connecticut to send the Terps to their 19th Final Four. She picked up 12 assists on the year and earned NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic Region honors..
• Bleakney comes to the Terrapins from Syracuse, where she tallied 11 goals and six assists in three seasons.
CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
• Bleakney and Keus were voted team co-captains by their peers.
OVERTIME IS TERPS TIME
During Missy Meharg's tenure, the Terrapins have become one of the nation's most dangerous teams in overtime.
• The Terps are 70-25 (.737) all-time in games that went to overtime or a shootout.
• In Meharg's tenure, the Terps are 59-21 (.738) in overtime or shootout games.
• Maryland is 16-3 in overtime and shootout games at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
STAFF UPDATES
• The Terrapins welcome two new assistant staff members and former Terrapins in 2019. Janessa Pope will serve as the team's director of operations and Sarah Holliday is a student assistant coach.
• Pope played for the Terrapins from 2009-2012 and won two NCAA Championships in her career. She graduated with her degree in hearing and speech sciences and works at a local elementary school as a speech language pathologist for preschoolers.
• Holliday played for the Terrapins from 2015-2018 and started in 74 career games. She notched 261 career saves. She is finishing her degree in psychology.
TERPS ON NATIONAL TEAMS
• Thirteen Terrapins, former and present, are currently on USA Field Hockey's national team rosters.
• Jill (Witmer) Funk competed with Team USA in the Rio Olympics along with former volunteer assistant coach Stefanie Fee. Former Terrapin Megan Frazer is on the Irish National Team.
• Recent grads Linnea Gonzales, Anna Dessoye and Alyssa Parker are on the U.S. Women's National Team. The won bronze in the Pan American games this summer.
• Seniors Kelee Lepage, Madison Maguire and recent grad Sabrina Rhodes are on the U.S. Developmental Squad.
• Current Terps Brooke DeBerdine and Kyler Greenwalt are on the U.S. Under-21 Team. Emma DeBerdine, Belle Bressler and Riley Donnelly are on the U.S. U-19 Team.
