Wrestling Heads to the District for AU Round Robin

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland wrestling team will head into its second week of competition on Saturday (Nov. 9) at the American University Round Robin, facing American and VMI in a tournament-style round robin at the Bender Arena from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The format will feature four mats and constant action for three hours, with the bouts predetermined.
Last weekend at the Cavalier Duals, Head Coach Alex Clemsen earned his first win as a head coach, King Sandoval won in his dual debut, Hunter Baxter earned his first dual win and got his first pin in a dual match. Michael Doetsch and Jahi Jones also notched their first wins by fall in a dual match, while Kyle Cochran earned his second-career tech. fall victory.

SCOUTING AMERICAN
American is coming off a big weekend at the Battle of the Citadel, where they placed second of seven teams and earned five total podium finishes. Kizhan Clarke is ranked 14th in the nation at 149 pounds by InterMat after his 4-0 performance, while Tanner Harvey went 3-0 and is currently ranked 16th in the nation at 184 pounds.
SCOUTING VMI
VMI opened the season at the Southeast Open, where Maryland also competed last Sunday. Neal Richards was VMI's best performer, finishing in fifth at 174 pounds. Richards, last year's Southern Conference Wrestler of the Year and a NCAA qualifier, won four of his five matches Sunday. Maryland's Philip Spadafora, also in the 174 pound bracket at the Southeast Open, took home second place.
