COLLEGE PARK, Md. -Â Â Nearing the end of stretch of games that includes 7-of-9 games away from home, the No. 24 Maryland men's basketball team heads to Ann Arbor for a top-25 matchup against No. 6 Michigan Saturday at noon on Fox. The Terps are 4-2 against ranked opponents this season, and are looking to secure their fourth 20-win season in the past five years.
STORYLINES
•  The Terps are coming off an emphatic 70-56 victory over No. 12 Purdue Tuesday, when it outscored the Boilermakers 40-18 in the second half. Maryland, which trailed by eight points at halftime, moved to 5-1 in Big Ten play when trailing at the break. Five different players reached double-figures, and the second half included a stretch of 21 consecutive points scored by freshmen.
•  Maryland held Purdue to 28-percent shooting from the field after holding its previous opponent, Nebraska, to just 21-percent. It was the first time in at least 30 years Maryland has held back-to-back conference opponents under 30-percent shooting. The Terps now rank 25th nationally in FG pct. defense (40.1).
• Sophomore Bruno Fernando notched his seventh consecutive double-double and 16th of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds against Purdue. The streak is tied for the third-longest in program history. The other Terps with streaks of at least seven games: Jordan Williams (13), Len Elmore (12) and Joe Smith (7). His 16 double-doubles are tied for fifth nationally.
• Freshman Eric Ayala scored 15 points against No. 12 Purdue, and is averaging 12.1 points in Maryland's six games against ranked opponents (2.9 more than his season average). Ayala was one of three freshmen who reached double-figures in the Terps' victory over the Boilermakers.
• Maryland's 15-point win over Nebraska on Feb. 1 marked its fourth double-digit conference road win of the season, having also defeated Rutgers (14), Minnesota (15) and Ohio State (14) by more than 10. The four such wins match the amount of double-digit victories it had in its first four seasons in the Big Ten combined.
•  The Terps remain one of the best rebounding teams in the nation, ranking second in the country and first in the Big Ten Conference in rebound margin (+10.0). Bruno Fernando ranks second in the conference in rebounds/g (10.7), while Jalen Smith is fifth in offensive rebounds/g (2.75).
•  Bruno Fernando was named one of 10 players to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award list (top center), becoming the first Terp to earn the honor in since its inception in 2015. Also on the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Midseason List, Fernando currently leads the Big Ten Conference (6th nationally) in field goal percentage (.668), ranks second in rebounds/g (10.7) and is third in blocks/g (1.9).
•  Terp Tendencies: Maryland has won all 19 games when leading with 5:00 to play; Maryland is 12-0 when holding opponents under 40-percent shooting; Maryland is 16-2 when Jalen Smith scores 10+ points.
•  The Terrapins boast one of the youngest lineups in the country in terms of experience, ranking 349th out of 353 teams according to KenPom.com.
