Box Score COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior Sebastian Holte-Mancera reached base three time and notched two RBIs to put the Maryland baseball team back in the win column with an 11-6 victory over Delaware Tuesday night at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.
The Terrapins (7-4) scored their most runs of the season in the win and pounded out 13 hits. Sophomore Justin Vought notched three hits and two runs scored while sophomore Randy Bednar notched two hits and stole four bases, the most stolen bases in a game for a Terp since Charlie White had four on March 19, 2014 against UMBC.
After Delaware bagged a run in the first, the Terps came back in the bottom of the inning to plate three runs with RBIs from Vought, freshman Ben Cowles and Holte-Mancera. In the fourth, Randy Bednar plated sophomore Tommy Gardiner on a groundball that saw Caleb Walls putout at second.
Delaware made a comeback in the fifth inning as the Blue Hens offense tallied five runs. Freshman right-hander Daniel O'Connor entered after Mark DiLuia and Billy Phillips, allowed a two-run double, but did get the Terps out of the jam. O'Connor ended up earning his first career win.
Maryland battled back in the bottom of the fifth to take back the lead. With Holte-Mancera and Gardiner in scoring position, Junior outfielder Caleb Walls hit a fielder's choice to plate both players, putting the Terps back in the lead.
Senior Taylor Wright led off the sixth inning with a bunt-single down the third base line. The Terps capitalized on this advantage lead with a two-RBI double by Cowles that put the Terps back on top by one. Cowles was thrown out trying to advance to third on the play, but Holte-Mancera stepped up with the first home run of his career to make it an 11-6 game.
The Terps bullpen got back on track, holding the Hens scoreless the last four innings of the game. Freshman right-hander Will Glock and junior right-hander Nick Turnbull each pitched one scoreless inning to stifle the Hens offense.
In the eighth inning, freshman Maxwell Costes slugged his first career home run over the fence in left field. Freshman right-hander Sean Heine closed out the game in the ninth, recording two strikeouts.
Maryland returns to the field this weekend at Stetson in a three game series with the Hatters. Game one is scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m., and fans can listen to the action live on the Maryland Baseball Network
