
Maryland Clashes With Stetson in DeLand

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland baseball team heads to DeLand, Fla., for a three-game set with Stetson. The Terps have won seven of their last nine games after starting the season 0-2 and are coming off an 11-6 win over Delaware on Tuesday in College Park.

- Maryland is 3-5 against the Hatters all-time, with the teams first meeting in 1979. The two programs faced off last season in College Park and the Terps captured the series victory.
- Maryland's trio of RHP Hunter Parsons, RHP Zach Thompson and RHP Trevor LaBonte combined to throw 19 and two thirds innings last weekend at Louisiana, giving up two earned runs with 17 strikeouts to four walks. Parsons (1.35) and LaBonte (1.46) rank in the top-10 in the Big Ten for ERA.
- Parsons was spectacular in his start against the Hatters last year, tossing a complete game while allowing no runs, two hits and striking out nine to no walks.
- Freshman Maxwell Costes has reached base in all 11 games to start his Maryland career and is second on the team with a .300 average. Costes played his first game at first base since middle school on Tuesday against Delaware and played well.
- Sophomore outfielder Randy Bednar started the season on a tear with hits in his first eight games. Bednar leads Maryland in average at .304 and is 13th in the conference in slugging.
- Maryland leads the Big Ten in doubles (24), paced by senior Taylor Wright who has five. The Terps also lead the conference in stolen bases (19), led by Bednar who has stolen five bags, including four against Delaware, the most for a Terp in a single game since 2014.
- The Terps are outscoring opponents 14-4 in the first inning this season.
- The Terps used nine pitchers in its 5-4 win over VCU on last weekend. Maryland used 14 pitchers over the course of the season in 2018 and have already thrown 17 arms this season.
- Senior closer John Murphy has already picked up four saves this season which leads the Big Ten. Maryland has five total saves this year after recording seven in all of 2018.
