Terps Take On Northwestern This Weekend

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland baseball team takes on Northwestern at Rocky Miller Park in Evanston, Ill., this weekend. The Terps and Wildcats will clash at 4:30 p.m. Friday before the two teams play a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday.
Storylines
  • The Maryland baseball team travels to the state of Illinois for the second consecutive week when it faces off with Northwestern. Maryland is 3-5 all-time against the Wildcats. The Terps one the three games series between the two teams last season in College Park.
  • Maryland has accumulated nine road wins so far this season, which tops the Big Ten. The Terps are coming off a road series win over Illinois and now sit with a 3-3 conference record. 
  • Maryland's Friday ace Hunter Parsons has been fantastic over his last three starts, boasting a 1.88 ERA with 17 strikeouts to six walks and a .154 ERA over 24 innings pitched. Paronsons ranks in the top 10 in the conference in ERA, innings pitching, opposing batting average and wins.
  • Senior Taylor Wright has taken the next step this season after struggling last year in his first season at Maryland. Wright currently leads the Big Ten in doubles with 12 for the season, and has walked 19 times, which is tied for ninth in the conference.
  • Maryland put up a season-high 16 runs and hit a single game season-high four home runs in its midweek win over William & Mary. The Terps are tied for second in the conference with 31 home runs so far this season, with Justin Vought, Maxwell Costes and Randy Bednar sharing the team lead (5).
  • Senior shortstop AJ Lee has started to find his form in his last 14 games, leading the Terps with a .319 average and .452 on-base percentage. Lee has scored 11 times during that span, a mark that leads Maryland.
  • Freshman Josh Maguire has brought the power since debuting during the Indiana series. The Delaware native now has six career hits, with three being solo home runs. 
  • Senior right-hander John Murphy is starting to climb up Maryland's all-time saves list. With six for the season, Murphy now has 11 for his career which is tied with Mike Ginsberg for sixth all-time. With two more saves, Murphy would tie for fifth with Ryan Selmer. His six saves ranks tied for third in the Big Ten.
