JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On the final day of competition at the NCAA East Prelims, Alex Lucki joined Mikella Lefebvre-Oatis, Jewel Smith, Xahria Santiago and Greg Thompson as Maryland's NCAA Championship qualifiers who will compete in Austin, Texas in two weeks. Lucki's 4:18.69 in the 1500m run was her second-best time of the season and ranked fifth in the field.
Leah Blackall opened the day for the Terps but closed out her outdoor season with a 26th-place 12.57m leap in the triple jump. Blackall finished her junior campaign with three wins and six podium finishes in the triple jump, garnering second-team All-Big Ten honors two weeks ago at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships.
In the high jump, Sam Shoultz wrapped up a memorable career but was ultimately one progression away from advancing to NCAA Championships for the second-consecutive season. Shoultz's mark of 2.16m was his second-best clearance this season. Freshman Nate Moore also wrapped up his outdoor season today in the high jump, notching a new career-best 2.11m.
Alex Lucki also ran in the 5k an hour and a half after qualifying in the 1500m run. Lucki finished 37th in the field with a 17:09.80, her second-best time of the season.
Both men's and women's 4x400m relay squads closed out the day for the Terps. The women's squad of Xahria Santiago, Thaila Cooper, Cheyenne Jones and Venida Fagan ran a 3:37.92 and finished 21st in the field. The men's squad of Aaron Robinson, Kameron Jones, Hazem Miawad and Colin Rowe ran a 3:11.18, finishing 19th in the field.
Lefebvre-Oatis, Smith, Santiago, Thompson and Lucki will travel to the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Austin, Texas June 5-8.
