Terps Handle Arkansas in Four Sets

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland hit at its highest percentage of the season (.318), served its most aces of the season (15), Rebekah Rath tallied a team and career-high 15 kills and six aces, and Maryland took down Arkansas in four sets to open its weekend.

In a night where the Terps lived and died on the service line, the aces outweighed the errors 15-10. Rath served six, Samantha Snyder and Katie Myers both added four, and Allegra Rivas tallied another.

The Terps took the first set 25-22 following a back-and-forth affair in which Arkansas rallied late to tie it at 22, but three consecutive points for the Terps put it away. Arkansas had the advantage for most of the second set, and Maryland was able to bring it within one several times late in the set, but the Razorbacks came out on top 25-23.

Arkansas jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set, and led 19-15 later in the set, but couldn't get the job done as the Terps won 26-24. Maryland looked as if it would play another five-setter after falling behind 7-1 in the fourth set, but the Terps used a nine-point run - fueled by back to back Rebekah Rath aces - to rally back and win the set and the match.

Rath, Erika Pritchard, and Myers all finished the night with double-digit kills, and four Terps (Myers, Pritchard, Jada Gardner, Rainelle Jones) had 3+ blocks to hold the Razorbacks to a .250 hitting percentage.

Maryland finishes its home tournament tomorrow with two matches on deck - George Mason (2-5) and Princeton (1-3).
