RICHMOND, Va. – Senior
Peter Knade of the Maryland men's golf team went 12 strokes under par overall and finished in second at the VCU Invitational Tuesday at The Country Club of Virginia in Richmond.
Knade finished second in the individual standings, just one stroke behind the individual leader, Carter Morgan from Old Dominion. Knade shot a 67 in the first round, 68 in the second and a 69 in the third and final round Tuesday. He finished with an overall score of 204, which is four strokes better than his previous collegiate career best of 208.
"Good start to the fall for the guys," head coach Jason Rodenhaver said. "We had three new starters in the line-up, including two freshmen, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. I thought we played three solids rounds, especially today with the weather. Peter Knade had a great week. We have a few weeks before we head to Raleigh. We'll clean up a few things and hopefully carry this solid play into our next event."
The Terps ended play with a score of 841 (284-278-279) which was 23 strokes under par. They moved to fourth place from sixth place out of the 12 teams competing, due to their strong final round.
Besides Knade, four other Terrapins notched top 50 finishes. Senior Christian Park led the rest of the Terps with a score of -15 with a 212 (71-68-73), which tied him for 15th. Freshman Will Celiberti and senior Chris Lane both tied for 25th with their two-under scores of 214. Celiberti shot a 68 in the final round Tuesday. Lane competed as an individual and shot a 72 in the first round, a career-best 67 in the second and 75 in the third.
Freshman Austin Barbin finished one stroke over par, which tied him for 32nd, which his score of 217 (74-74-69). Sophomore Dhaivat Pandya went +7 with a score of 223 (77-68-78).
Next, the Terps will compete next in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C. Oct. 5-6.
