View From the Box
  • Northwestern (3-3-0, 1-0-0 Big Ten) jumped out on the front foot, earning a corner kick in the first 15 seconds of the match before tallying a goal in the fourth minute through Bardia Kimiavi. The Wildcats were the livelier of the two sides in the first 20 minutes, with Maryland's best chance coming on a David Kovacic half volley that was saved in the 11th minute.
  • The Terps (3-3-0, 0-1-0 Big TEn) began to get a foothold in the game in the final 20 minutes of the first half. The home side's best opportunity came in the 32nd minute when senior Luke Brown struck a right-footed free kick from 20 yards out that was saved off the line by a Wildcat defender.
  • The Terps began the contest with sophomore William James Herve on the left win, but the Frenchman was forced out due to injury in the eighth minute. Freshman Marques Antoine earned his first career start, but the Canadian made way for sophomore Brett St. Martin in the 18th minute and it was the Mount Airy, Md., native that finished out the contest for the Terps in the backline.
  • Down a goal coming out of the break, Maryland began the second half on the front and were rewarded with the equalizing goal in the 56th minute. A ball knock off a Maryland touch came to Brown who fed the ball to the path of Brayan Padilla. The Texan made a driving run towards the top of the box before striking the ball with the outside of his left foot past Miha Miskovic in the Northwestern goal.
  • The goal was the second of Padilla's career at Maryland. The sophomore has scored two top shelf goals so far in his career, this strike combined with his classy free kick at UCLA.
  • Maryland seemed to have taken control of the match before Northwestern scored a goal out of nothing. Matt Moderwell received the ball on the left wing and floated a ball that went over Russell Shealy's head and in at the back post.
  • The Terps threw numbers forward looking for an equalizer and saw decent looks from Eli Crognale and Justin Gielen go begging. Northwestern sealed the match in the 86th minute when Ty Seager jumped on an errant back pass from Nick Richardson and chipped the ball over Shealy's head and into the goal.
From The Boss
"Full credit to Northwestern tonight. They came in and put in a good shift. Just a difficult night for us, but we are strong people and we've got great culture and we'll become stronger from this. We'll be better." – Sasho Cirovski
