COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of Maryland volleyball team completed a Saturday sweep of Kennesaw State and Appalachian State, beating both in three sets, to close out nonconference play. Maryland's win over Appalachian State marked the 1000th win in program history, dating back to 1971.
The Terps played back-to-back three-setters for the first time this season, beating Kennesaw State in straight sets in the first match of the day, then sweeping Appalachian State to finish the Gamecock Invitational 2-1 and to close out nonconference play 8-4.
Erika Pritchard led the Terps in kills (32) and service aces (10) over the course of the weekend, Nicole Alford paced the team in assists (57) in her return from injury, Allegra Rivas led the team in digs (37), and Katie Myers led the squad in blocks (19).
Match One – Kennesaw State
- Maryland came out firing and never relented in the morning match vs. Kennesaw State, taking down the Owls in straight sets, never allowing more than 18 points
- The Terps hit at a season-high .435 clip, while Rainelle Jones, Erika Pritchard, Katie Myers and Emma Schriner individually hit over .500
- Kennesaw State was limited to hitting .102 as a team, the third-lowest hitting percentage for a Maryland opponent on the season
- Erika Pritchard led Maryland with 11 kills
- Nicole Alford and Samantha Snyder dished 14 assists each
- Katie Myers led the team with 10 blocks, her second double-digit block outing of the season (10 vs. Houston, 9/7)
- Allegra Rivas led Maryland with 11 digs
- Maryland's 14 blocks were its most in a three-set match since August 27, 2017 when Maryland posted 18.5 in a 3-0 win over Sacred Heart
- The Terps won the first set 25-18, the highest contested set of the match. The Owls hung with Maryland for the majority of the set before a 5-1 Maryland run ended it
- Maryland won the second set 25-13, one of its most dominant set wins of the season, fueled by a 15-5 rally to close it out
- The Owls showed some fight in the third set but Maryland proved to be too much to deal with as the Terps won the set 25-16, and the match 3-0
Match Two – Appalachian State
- The Terps closed out the Gamecock Invitational with a winning record with Saturday's win over the Mountaineers
- Maryland's second win of the day also marked the 1000th win in program history
- The Terps' attack was nearly as precise as it was in the morning match as Maryland hit .370 as a team, its second highest mark of the season
- Freshman outside hitter Rebekah Rath got back into double-digit kills with 10, leading the team
- Rath was also perfect at the service line with a team-high two service aces and no service errors
- Samantha Snyder dished a team-high 17 assists while Nicole Alford tallied 15
- Allegra Rivas led the team in digs (7)
- Katie Myers led the team in blocks (3)
