Throughout the fall, umterps.com will be featuring a different men's basketball player (or players) each week leading up the start of the 2019-20 campaign. Be sure to follow along with additional player-specific content on Maryland basketball's social media platforms on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for more on each player. Today's featured player is Hakim Hart from Philadelphia, Pa. Here are five burning questions with Hakim!   Â
How would you describe your game to someone who has never seen you play?
"I see myself as a player who loves to make plays for my teammates and guard the opposing team's best players on defense. I think I have a lot of versatility to my game offensively."
What has been your favorite part about being at Maryland so far?
"My favorite part has been learning the incredible history of Maryland basketball and setting goals for myself to be among the best to play for this program. I've also really enjoyed the campus life so far."
You skyrocketed last season as a senior in high school to win Philly player of the year. What changed for you that led to so much success?
"I think I really changed my mentality on the court heading into my senior season. I just remember telling myself I was going to work as hard as I could. I was frustrated I wasn't receiving offers like many of the players I was playing against, so I put in the work to make it happen. I take a lot of pride in how consistent I played last year as a senior."
Describe what it has been like playing alongside the standout Maryland guards - Ant, EA, Wiggins, etc..
"When I first came in this summer, I was struggling a little bit and the guards talked to me and helped me along. As the summer progressed, I got so much better by just learning from them and watching them. Now I feel like I've gained chemistry with them and I can feel my overall game improving every day."
Who would be your dream 1-on-1 matchup if you could pick anyone and why?
"Paul George. He'd probably cook me right now (laughs), but maybe in the future things would be different."
