COLLEGE PARK, Md. - - The Maryland women's tennis team will begin its spring season with its home opener against local foe Georgetown on Saturday. The match will begin at noon at the Junior Tennis Champions Center.
The Terps will be coming off a successful fall season, having participated in seven tournaments. Freshman
Ayana Akli captured two singles titles for Maryland at the Roberta Alison Classic in Alabama, as well as at the ITA Hall of Fame Classic at William & Mary. Maryland also earned a doubles title in the same tournament from Akli and senior Kate Yemelyaneka.
Sophomore
Chloe Hamlin and junior
Zoe Kulkarni, along with
Saya Usui and
Amber Policare also had their share of doubles and singles victories throughout the fall and will look to continue that into the spring season.
Maryland will see a new face in Adela Josefova, who was recently added to join the Terps for the 2020 season. Coming from the Czech Republic, Josefova brings an impressive background to the lineup, having represented her country in the Junior National Olympics and finishing second in the Czech National Championships.
Katie Dougherty will also be making her spring debut as head coach, previously working as associate head coach for the Terps for the last three seasons.
