LEXINGTON, Ky. — Junior Nadia Hackett and freshman Caleb Dean opened day one of the Rod McCravy Memorial meet with qualifying times for the 60m hurdles semifinals Friday.
Hackett qualified with another personal best of 8.53. This is Hackett's third meet in a row with a personal best time. She's improved from Maryland's 10th all-time 60m hurdler to seventh. Dean ran a qualifying time of 8.15.
The women's heats of semifinals will start at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, with the men's race following 10 minutes later at 12:30 p.m.
Alice Barnsdale opened the meet in field events, placing sixth in weight throw (16.47m). In long jump, freshman Ashley Germain made her college-debut with a leap of 5.64m.
Several Terps held down their speed and proved why they're in the record books. Dashawn Morris, who holds the school record in the 400m, ran 21.53 to top the competition in his heat.
Destiny Ward and Jaida Smith, both who are top ten all-time runners, crossed the 200m finish line in 24.85 and 24.95 respectively.
In the 600m, Colin Rowe opened his indoor season with a ninth-place finish (1:20.65), holding his place as the fourth all-time Terp to compete in the race. Freshman Maxwell Myers continued to move his way up the record books with a 1:20.99 finish in the 600m and is now the seventh fastest 600m runner.
Maryland will return to Nutter Field House Saturday morning for day two of the meet. Women's high jump will began the day at 9:30 a.m.
