
Lowe, Kolarek Advance to World Series

Brandon Lowe and Adam Kolarek are moving on to the World Series.
On Saturday, Lowe (2013-15) and the Rays clinched the American League pennant - becoming just the sixth Terrapin in program history to advance to the World Series. On Sunday, Kolarek (2008-10) and the Dodgers punched their ticket to the World Series by beating the Atlanta Braves in Game 7 of the NLCS, becoming the seventh Terp to make it to the World Series.
They join Ron Swoboda (1969), Charlie Keller (1939, 41, 42, 43), Vic Keen (1926), Fred Anderson (1917), and Buck Herzog (1911, 12, 13, 17) as the only Terps to make it to the Fall Classic.
Lowe flourished in 2020, leading the Rays in all major offensive statistics during the regular season. In 2019, Lowe earned a trip to the MLB All-Star Game and was a finalist for the AL Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award. A 2015 D1Baseball.com Second Team All-American, Lowe was a career .338 hitter with 10 home runs and 30 doubles as a Terp. He was named a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2015 and helped Maryland to consecutive Super Regional appearances in 2014 and 2015. Lowe was drafted in the third round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Rays and made his MLB debut on Aug. 5, 2018.
Kolarek's 2020 regular-season campaign was his best as a pro, tossing 19 innings with a 0.95 ERA out of the bullpen for the first-place Dodgers. In 20 appearances, Kolarek held opponents to just two runs, 11 hits, and a .164 batting average against. The Mets' 11th-round pick in the 2010 MLB Draft spent eight years in the minors before breaking into the big leagues for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2017. Since then, he's become a versatile major league bullpen pitcher, making the seventh-most appearances out of the Dodgers 'pen this season.
Maryland becomes one of two NCAA programs to have multiple players represented in the World Series (Cal State Fullerton). The 2020 World Series will be the second World Series in which two Terps contend for the title in the same year (1917), and the first in which two Terps compete against eachother to become World Series Champions.
