ODU STORYLINES
Dominant at home
- Maryland has been dominant at home over the last three seasons, collecting a 46-7 (.868) overall record. The program's 46 wins during that span are the most in the Big Ten Conference. The Terps are also 52-6 in non-conference home games over the last seven seasons, including a 7-0 mark last season.
THE BOYS ARE BACK
- The Terrapins return a trio of starters from last season's Big Ten Championship team, including senior Darryl Morsell, junior Eric Ayala and sophomore Donta Scott. Last season's Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year, Aaron Wiggins, actually played the most minutes among returning players with 28.6 minutes-per-game despite coming off the bench.
10 YEARS OF TURGEON
- Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon is set to begin his 10th season at the helm for the Terrapins, having led the program to more than 20 wins in five of the last six seasons. Turgeon's .652 winning percentage in Big Ten Conference play ranks sixth all-time among coaches with at least 50 wins, trailing only Bo Ryan, Bob Knight, Tom Izzo and Thad Matta.
FRESH FACES
- Maryland bolstered its frontcourt with a pair of veteran transfers in the offseason, adding junior forward Jairus Hamilton (Boston College) and grad transfer forward Galin Smith (Alabama). A native of Charlotte, N.C., Hamilton started 20 games last season and averaged 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds in 25.7 minutes-per-game. Smith is a native of Clinton, Miss., and appeared in 94 career games for Alabama across three seasons. He reached double-figures in three SEC games last year.
SERIES HISTORY
- Maryland is 4-1 all-time against Old Dominion, having last played each other in 1988. The Terps won the last meeting, 70-65, as Derrick Lewis led the way with 18 points and Keith Gatlin chipped in 13 of his own. All five meetings between the schools came in six-year span from 1983-88.
