Maryland Volleyball Opens 2021 Season Jan. 22

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland volleyball team will play a 22-match regular season schedule this spring, the Big Ten Conference announced Tuesday evening. Times and broadcast information will be announced at a later date. All home matches will be played at the XFINITY Center Pavilion.

Maryland will play 11 total two-match series – five at home, five on the road, and one split week with Rutgers, our geographically relevant opponent. No team has more than one instance of consecutive two-game series at home or away. None of these occurrences take place in the first or last two weeks.

Maryland will open the season on the road at Ohio State on Jan. 22 and 23, before returning home for the home opening series vs. Minnesota on Jan. 29 and 30. The Terrapins then make a trip to Nebraska Feb. 5-6 and head home to face Michigan State Feb. 12-13. Maryland concludes the first half of the season with a road trip to Michigan Feb. 19-20 and a home series vs. Penn State on Feb. 26 and 27.

The Terps will then play at Indiana on March 5-6, head home to face Iowa March 12-13, and travel to Champaign for the last road series of the season to face Illinois March 19-20. Maryland's split week vs. Rutgers features a Tuesday matchup in College Park on March 23 and a Saturday match in Piscataway on March 27. Maryland will close the regular season with a home series vs. Northwestern on April 2-3.

Highlighting Maryland's schedule are matchups with five 2019 NCAA Tournament teams in Michigan, Nebraska, Illinois, Penn State, and Minnesota. Three of Maryland's 2021 opponents finished the 2019 campaign in the final 2019 AVCA Coaches Poll, while eight of Maryland's 11 opponents finished the 2019 season ranked in the Top-100 of the nation in RPI.

The season will begin with no fans in attendance at XFINITY Center out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our student-athletes and fans. Maryland athletics is hopeful that some fans will be welcomed to XFINITY Center as the season progresses and health conditions permit.
