PALM COAST, Fla.  – Maryland beat Nebraska in the Big Ten Match Play Third-Place match and finished third overall in its first event of the spring this weekend.
The Terrapins went 2-1 on the weekend at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla.
The 11th-seeded Terrapins went to a tie-breaker with Rutgers after tying 3-3 in the first round Friday.
Maryland advanced to face seventh-seeded Penn State in the semifinals Saturday. The Terrapins fell in a tie-breaker, where they faced 13th-seeded Nebraska. Peter Knade went 2&1, Chris Lane went 3&1 and Will Koras went 2UP to earn full points for Maryland. Christian Park earned a half point.
"As usual, all the matches usually go the distance," head coach Jason Rodenhaver said. "This year, all four of our matches went to the final hole. Great for us to get into some pressure situations early in the spring. We're disappointed we couldn't get past Penn State in the semifinals. Give them credit. They made two birdies on the final hole which gave them the tie-breaker."
Knade, Lane and freshman Austin Barbin all won two of their three matches on the weekend.
