COLLEGE PARK, Md.. -- The Maryland women's tennis team faces Rutgers in its Big Ten opener on Friday, Feb. 14 at 12:30 p.m. in the East Brunswick Racquet Club in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
Maryland heads into the match 5-3 overall and 1-1 away from home after a a 4-0 win over Idaho and a 6-1 loss to Oregon and. The Terps are 5-0 over the Scarlet Knights since the teams each joined the conference. Rutgers is 5-1 this spring, most recently defeating Binghamton and NJIT.
No. 73 Ayana Akli is undefeated at the No. 1 singles spot for the Terps (8-0). The freshman has defeated a total of four ranked opponents, including two during the spring season. Junior Eva Alexandrova anchors the No. 2 spot for Maryland, also remaining undefeated in singles competition at 3-0.
