Terps Fall to Coastal Carolina, 10-3

CONWAY, S.C. -- The Maryland baseball team fell to Coastal Carolina, 10-3, on Saturday afternoon at Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina. Maryland's offense remained quiet for the second consecutive game, scoring just three runs on five hits in the second game of the series. Nick Dean went five innings, his longest start of the season, allowing two runs on six hits. The freshman right-hander takes the loss and moves to 0-1 on the season.

What to Know
  • Randy Bednar went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. The junior has been on a tear to open the season, batting .364 while driving in 10 runs, which leads the team.
  • Nick Dean gave the Terps a solid start on the mound in his third game as a Maryland Terrapin. Dean racked up a season-high six strikeouts, walking just three against a potent Coastal Carolina offense.
  • Maxwell Costes extended his on-base streak to nine games with a walk. The sophomore was hitless at the plate but walked in the fourth inning to preserve the streak.
  • Chanticleer reliever Alaska Abney was masterful out of the bullpen, earning the win and tossing 4 and 1/3 innings. Abney gave up two runs on four hits, both runs coming once Abney got past the four-inning mark. It was Abney's longest outing of the season.
  • Chris Alleyne, Tucker Flint, and Benjamin Cowles recorded the other hits for the Terps. Flint, who had been held hitless since opening weekend, singled in his last at-bat, a line drive up the middle in the sixth inning.
Up Next
