No. 73 Akli Finds Victory in Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. -- The Maryland women's tennis team gave a valiant effort but fell to Oregon 1-6 on Sunday.
The Terps started out strong in doubles play, with freshman Ayana Akli and senior Kate Yemelyanenka leading at the No. 1 spot over Rifanty Kahfiani and Paiton Wagner, along with senior Saya Usui and junior Eva Alexandrova leading over Uxia Martinez Moral and Myah Petchey at the No. 3 spot. The Ducks rallied back however, taking the doubles point 2-0.
Maryland saw competitive match ups in singles play, with several Terps in back and forth battles throughout their respective matches. Freshman Adela Josefova came back from a 1-4 deficit to take her first set over Lillian Mould 6-4, but the Duck battled back taking the remaining two sets, 6-4 and 10-3 in the super tie breaker.
Akli managed to hold onto a first set nail biter against Kahfiani, winning in a tiebreaker 7-6. The freshman then took the match after defeating the Duck 7-6, 6-1 overall to remain undefeated (8-0) at the No. 1 spot for Maryland.
The Terps will be back in action against Rutgers on Friday, Feb. 14 at 12:30 p.m.
