The Last Time Out
The Last Time Out
- Maryland improved to 10-4 on the season after winning all four games it played in last week. Maryland topped Delaware 13-6 in the midweek game before sweeping Bryant in a three-game series. Maryland scored double-digit runs in three of the four games and outscored its opponents 48-15. Maryland's pitching staff - led by starters Sean Fisher, Nick Dean, and Sean Burke - gave up just three runs in each contest vs. Bryant.
- Maryland's offense exploded over the course of the last four games. The Terps hit .367 as a team, scoring 48 runs on 51 hits in the last four contests. Maryland also belted 22 extra-base hits (14 doubles, 8 home runs), while also drawing 37 walks and 12 HBPs.
- The pitching was equally as dominant from the starters to the bullpen. Each starting pitcher in the weekend series vs. Bryant went six innings allowing three or less runs, all earning wins.
- Fisher bounced back from a shaky performance at Coastal Carolina with a solid six-inning, three run affair on Friday night. Fisher struck out a career-high eight batters and walked just two.
- Saturday marked Dean's best performance on the mound in a Maryland uniform, tossing six innings of three-hit, scoreless ball. The freshman struck out six and earned his first career win.
- Burke continued to be Mr. Reliable, giving the Terps another shutdown start on Sunday. The Sutton, Mass. native struck out a career-high 11 over six innings, allowing five hits and three runs (two earned).
- Burke's 11-strikeout performance Sunday improves his strikeout mark to 35 on the season, which is first in Division I baseball among freshman pitchers. It is also the fourth-highest mark in the conference.
- Maxwell Costes was a force in the batter's box all weekend - much like he has been all season. The reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year went 6-for-10 at the plate with a double and a home run. He notched eight RBIs and reached base 10 times either via walk or HBP. Costes owns a .627 on-base percentage on the season, which is the second highest mark in Division I baseball.
- Chris Alleyne is coming off one of the most impressive performances in school history, going 6-for-6 at the plate on Friday night vs. Bryant. The junior outfielder tied the school record with the six-hit outing, which was the first of its kind since Ron Hartman tallied six hits vs. UMBC on March 14, 1995.
- Alleyne hit his first home run of the season in his sixth at-bat of the game to tie the record. The Philadelphia native went 11-for-21 (.524) at the plate over the last four games and hit three doubles to improve to eight on the season, which ranks first in the conference. Alleyne also nabbed a team-high 17 total bases, stole a team-high four bases, and scored seven runs.
- Benjamin Cowles got going offensively, going 7-for-16 (.438) at the plate in the last four games. Cowles hit two home runs and drove in 10 more. He now ranks second on the team in home runs on the season with three.
- Randy Bednar has continued to shine offensively, going 9-for-21 (.429) at the plate last week. Bednar - who leads the team in hits (22), doubles (8) and RBIs (16) - has proven to be one of the most effective hitters in the Big Ten, raising his season average to .379
- Freshman outfielder Bobby Zmarzlak also burst onto the scene. On Friday, Zmarzlak hit two home runs - one a grand slam - in just the fourth start of his career. He went 4-for-11 on the weekend with eight RBIs, while also walking six times.
- Brenton Davis received his first start as a Terp, getting the nod behind the dish on Saturday. The junior's first hit of his Maryland career was a home run.
- RHP Zach Thompson (0-0, 5.79 ERA, 9.1 IP, 5 K, 4 BB) vs. TBA
- James Madison is off to a 9-6 start to the season.
- Chase DeLauter paces the Dukes with a .413 batting average. The freshman two-way player leads the team in hits (26), doubles (7), runs scored (14), slugging (.603), and on-base percentage (.466).
- The Dukes are batting .295 as a team and have scored 98 runs to opponents' 72.
- James Madison has yet to name a starting pitcher for Wednesday's affair. The Dukes own a 4.33 team ERA.
