COLLEGE PARK, Md. --
Chris Alleyne,
Randy Bednar,
Maxwell Costes, and
Benjamin Cowles notched multiple hits as the Maryland baseball team took down Delaware, 13-6, on Wednesday night at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.
What to Know
- Maryland's 15 hits was the most hits the team has recorded since totaling 17 vs. VCU on April 20, 2019.
- Alleyne went 4-for-6 on the evening, recording the first-four hit game of his career. Alleyne becomes the first Terp to tally four hits in a contest since Justin Vought did the same vs. William & Mary last season (4/9/19).
- Alleyne posted two doubles, his second game of the season with multiple doubles. He leads the team and the Big Ten with seven on the season.
- Bednar went 3-for-5 at the plate, also crushing two doubles. Bednar ranks second in the league with six on the season.
- Costes went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, also drawing 2 HBPs. The reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year also stole a base on a double steal with Bednar in the seventh, just the second stolen base of his career.
- Starter Zach Thompson gave the Terps 4 1/3 innings on the mound, allowing five runs on three hits. The redshirt junior retired the first nine batters he faced before allowing three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
- Cowles was terrific both offensively and defensively. The sophomore drove in five runs (most since Vought recorded 5 RBI vs. William & Mary, 4/9/19) on 2-for-2 hitting, notching his second home run of the season, a two-run double, and a sac fly while stealing a base and drawing two walks.
- Tavan Shahidi hit the first home run of his career, a solo shot to lead off the third inning. Shahidi also drew two walks and a HBP.
- Maryland was hit by six pitches in the game. The Terps have now been hit by 35 pitches on the season, a mark that ranks first in the Big Ten.
