Maryland Secures Series Sweep, Beats Bryant 13-3

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland baseball team got another solid start from Sean Burke, while Maxwell Costes continued to be the Terrapins' hottest hitter as Maryland took down Bryant, 13-3, and secured the three-game sweep.

What to Know
  • Maryland improved to 10-4 on the season while Bryant dropped to 2-11.
  • Burke was excellent in just the fourth start of his career. The redshirt freshman tossed six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, while striking out a career-high 11. He improves to 2-0 on the season.
  • Burke becomes the first Maryland pitcher to strike out 10+ batters in a game since Hunter Parsons recorded 10 vs. Creighton on March 22, 2019.
  • Costes has been on a tear to start his sophomore campaign. He was 2-for-2 today with a solo home run and a two-run double. He also stole two bases today. The big fella can move!
  • Costes' homer was his fourth of the season. He leads the team and the conference in that category.
  • Randy Bednar extended his hitting streak to six games. He went 1-for-6 at the plate with two runs driven in.
  • Austin Chavis enjoyed the most productive day of his career at the plate. The junior was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
  • Bryant scored first after the leadoff man reached on an error, the next batter got a base hit, and the next batter hit an RBI double. Burke responded by striking out the next three batters he faced.
  • The second and third innings went back and forth, but once Maryland jumped to a 3-2 lead on a Bednar RBI groundout, the Terps wouldn't fall behind for the rest of the day.
  • Benjamin Cowles, who has been heating up in the batters' box, drove in a run on an RBI double in the third.
  • Maryland put up three more runs in the fifth on a Bednar FC and Costes' double.
  • The Terps scored four unearned runs in the seventh, then a Tucker Flint RBI groundout in the eighth gave the Terps their 13th run.
  • Maryland's bullpen shut down the Bulldogs, as Sam Bello, Mark DiLuia, and Mike Vasturia combined for three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits.
