NEW BRUNSWICK NJ -- Rainelle Jones collected her 500th career block in Maryland (18-6, 6-6 Big Ten) volleyball's sweep of Rutgers (8-15, 0-12 B1G).
Down 10-4 at the start of the first set, the Terps rallied back and closed the set on a 12-4 run, winning it 25-19 thanks to six kills from
Paula Neciporuka and five from
Sam Csire.
The Terps raced out to a 7-1 lead in the second set and cruised to a 25-15 victory due in large part to three kills from
Laila Ricks as well as Jones' milestone block. The third and final set was all Maryland as they crushed the Scarlet Knights, 25-11.
Sunday's matchup was Maryland's second sweep over Rutgers this season.
Rainelle Milestone
- Senior Rainelle Jones surpassed 500 total blocks in her career after adding five against Rutgers. The milestone came in the closing moments of the second set.
- She now has 144 blocks on the season.
Efficient Attack
- The Terps had one of their most efficient matches of the season with 40 kills and only four errors.
- Paula Neciporuka notched 10 kills on the afternoon before committing her first error. She would finish with 12.
- In the opening set of the night the Terps recorded 19 kills and only two errors. The second set saw them record 10 kills and only one error.
