COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland sophomore second baseman Matt Shaw was named to the 2022 Collegiate Baseball All-American Second Team, the publication announced Tuesday.
Shaw was the only player from the Big Ten to be named to any of the three teams.
Last season, Shaw batted .332 with an on-base percentage of .408 to go along with seven home runs and 30 RBI's. As a freshman, he helped lead the Terps to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017, making the Greenville Regional Final.
Shaw's 61 hits in 2021 led the team and ranked second in the Big Ten while also leading the team and ranking second in the league in doubles (16).
Before starting the final 15 games at second base, Shaw was a utility man for head coach Rob Vaughn as he saw action in both the infield and the outfield throughout his freshman season.
In the Terps' lone home Fall Ball games against the University of Virginia on October 23., Shaw picked up where he left off last season as he went 3-6 with a home run.
The Brimfield, Massachusetts native, finished last season with multiple honors, including being named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team, a 2021 Perfect Game Second Team Freshman All-American, and a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American.
