
Second-Half Surge Pushes #3 Terps Past #4 Rutgers

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Seven different Terps combined to score 10 goals in the second half to propel the #3 Maryland men's lacrosse team to a 19-12 victory over #4 Rutgers Saturday afternoon at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium.
Offensive Explosion
- Senior Jared Bernhardt tallied a career-high six goals and added a helped for seven points to lead all scorers.
- Sophomore Daniel Maltz recorded four points on four goals.
- Junior Kyle Long recorded four points on his first career hat trick and an assist.
- Senior Logan Wisnauskas had four points on two goals and two assists.
- Freshman Eric Malever netted his first career goal and added a career-best three assists for his first four-point effort.
- Senior Anthony DeMaio scored a goal and added an assist.
- The Terps' other goals came from Griffin Brown and Joshua Coffman.
Break Out The Record Book
- Bernhardt set his career-high for goals in a game with six. He now has 27 career hat tricks.
- Bernhardt's six goals moves him closer to the school record for goals scored. He now has 147, just eight away from tying Matt Rambo's career mark and just three away from passing Matt Hahn (149) for third place.
- Bernhardt's seven-point outing moved him up two spots on the school's all-time points list. The senior now has 215 for his career, moving him past Frank Urso (208) and Ray Altman (214) for 4th on the all-time list.
- Wisnauskas's four points moved him up to 13th place on the career points list, passing Jack Kaester (184) and Grant Catalino (185).

- Maryland has dominated the second half of games in 2021, outscoring the opposition 39-16.
Defense Stands Out
- The Terps held Rutgers to just two goals for the first 28:16 of the second half to help break the game open.
- Nick Grill had two caused turnovers and three groundballs, while holding Rutgers' Connor Kirst without a goal for the first time this season.
- Between the pipes, goalie Logan McNaney made nine saves.
Terps All-Time vs. the Scarlet Knights
- Maryland improves to 31-1 all-time vs. the Scarlet Knights.
- The 19-12 victory is the 13th straight win in the series for the Terps.
- The seven goal margin is the largest for the Terps vs. the Scarlet Knights since both schools joined the Big Ten prior to the 2015 season. The previous high margin of victory for Maryland over Rutgers was six goals in a 14-8 win in the 2016 Big Ten Tournament semifinals at Homewood Field in Baltimore.
- The 19 goals is the most-ever for the Terrapins against the Scarlet Knights.
