Terps Fall at Wisconsin, 2-0

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin scored two first half goals, and held off Maryland scoreless throughout the second half the secure a 2-0 win Thursday afternoon.

The Terrapins (0-7-2) managed seven shots in the contest while earning five corner kicks, but could not find the back of the net.

Wisconsin got on the board quickly in the game at McClimon Track/Soccer Complex, netting a pair of goals from Emma Jaskaniec ('7) and Cameron Murtha ('11) to take an early lead.

Maryland held firm from that point, generating its best chance on a Mikayla Dayes strike in the 35th minute. Her attempt parried high by the Wisconsin goalkeeper, and the ensuing corner was cleared away as the hosts eventually took a 2-0 lead into the break.

The Terps started to generate more chances in the second half tallying six shots and another one-on-one chance for Dayes with the goalkeeper. But her attempt in the 65th minute was blocked to keep a clean sheet for the Badgers.

With injuries mounting among Maryland's veteran core, Krista Varrichione, Olivia Reese, Tori Paul, Brooke Weston and Taylor Whitmer all made their first career starts for the Terps.

Maryland will return to action on Sunday, March 28 when the Terps face Minnesota in Minneapolis. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
