COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland softball took its first two games against Penn State on Friday, totaling 12 runs to the Nittany Lions' two. In game two, the Terps scored a season-high 11 runs on the same amount of hits, with freshman
Jaeda McFarland tallying her second career homer.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game One
- Maryland and Penn State went scoreless through five and a half innings of play
- Senior pitcher Jennifer Brann struck out six of Penn State's batters, her second highest of the season
- In the bottom of the sixth, McFarland got on base after an error by Penn State's second basemen, and was able to make it all the way around after a hit from junior Taylor Okada and further defensive errors on the Nittany Lions allowed the Terp to score
- A double from Penn State threatened to tie things up in the top of the last frame, but the Maryland defense held them scoreless to take the game 1-0
- Game Two
- Penn State was first to get on the board after a double from Kennedy Legg sent Claire Swedberg home to put them up early 1-0
- Maryland was quick to answer back, putting up six runs on five hits to put the Terps over PSU 6-1 in the first frame, the most in one inning this season
- Penn State's next appearance was a quick three-up three-down, bringing Maryland back out to play
- The Terps recorded another two runs on two hits to bring the score to 8-1 after two innings
- After a single from JoJo McRae put her on first, a homer from McFarland brought the two Terps home to extend the lead to 10-1
- Maryland added a final run in the bottom of the fourth to put them over the Nittany Lions 11-1 after five innings
