Burke Selected on Day 2 of MLB Draft

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland baseball pitcher Sean Burke was drafted on day two of the Major League Baseball Draft on Monday afternoon.
The right handed pitcher was the first Terp off the board being selected in the 3rd round and 94th overall by the Chicago White Sox. Burke, a Sutton, Massachusetts native, starred for the Terps in both 2020 and the 2021 season.
As a redshirt freshman Burke netted a 1.99 ERA and 35 strikeouts, both team bests. As a redshirt sophomore Burke continued his dazzling play by recording a team high 107 strikeouts and holding opponents to a .178 batting average against. Burke's strikeout mark this past season is good for sixth all-time in program history with his batting average against ranking him third in the Big Ten for 2021.
