COLLEGE PARK, MD - The ninth-ranked Maryland field hockey squad (5-2, 0-1 B1G) will hit the road for two road games this weekend. 

The Terrapins will play at Indiana (5-3, 0-1) Friday at noon in Bloomington. The Terps-Hoosiers game will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Click here for your channel number of watch online here.

Maryland will play at American (4-2) Sunday at 3 p.m. in Washington, D.C. The Terps-Eagles game will be streamed on ESPN+.
 

2021-22 STORYLINES

Right here, right now
  • Maryland came from behind to beat #17 Princeton, 4-3, in overtime Tuesday afternoon. Brooke DeBerdine score her first goal of the year with under 5:00 to play to tie the game. The Terrapins started the overtime period a player down due to a penalty. Maura Verleg scored her first goal of the season in the 68th minute for the win.
  • The Terrapins have a variety of weapons. Ten Terps have found the goal cage, led by Bibi Donraadt with four goals this season.
  • The Terps are No. 9 in the country in assists per game (3.0). They are No. 3 in the Big Ten and are No. 13 in the country in corners per game (7.57).

  • The Terps return 18 letterwinners from their 2020-21 squad, including All-Americans Brooke DeBerdine and Riley Donnelly. The Terps welcome five newcomers - Carly Hynd, Paige Kieft, Kylee Niswonger and US National Team players Julianna Tornetta and Hope Rose.
  • Senior Riley Donnelly, junior Emma DeBerdine and freshman Hope Rose won bronze with the US Under-21 Team in the Junior Pan American Cup in Santiago, Chile in August. Rose was named MVP of the event.
  • The Terrapins went 8-7 in the 2020 season (played in the spring of 2021). The Terps closed the regular season with a series sweep of No. 6 Rutgers.

Preseason honors 
  • Fifth-year seniors Brooke DeBerdine and Julianna Tornetta and freshman Hope Rose of the Maryland field hockey squad were named to the Big Ten's Players to Watch List.
  • All three Terrapins were named to the US National Team roster this summer, along with former Terps Linnea Gonzales, Kelee Lepage and Carrie Hanks.
  • DeBerdine, who earned NFHCA All-America honors this past spring, was voted team captain for the second straight season. She also earned First Team All-Big Ten honors this past spring.
  • Tornetta, a graduate transfer from Princeton, and Rose are newcomers to the Terrapins' roster. Tornetta earned NFHCA All-America honors at Princeton in the 2019 and 2018 seasons. She helped the Tigers to back-to-back Final Four appearances and an appearance in the national title game. She tallied 18 goals and 33 assists in her career as a Tiger.
  • Rose, an incoming freshman from Dauphin, Pa., earned MAX Field Hockey All-America honors. She scored 233 career goals in her high school career.

  • Fifth-year seniors Brooke DeBerdine and Kyler Greenwalt of the Maryland field hockey squad were voted team captain and vice captain, respectively, by their teammates for the fall 2021 season.
  • DeBerdine, who earned NFHCA All-America honors this past spring, served as the team's captain for the spring 2021 season.
  • Greenwalt earned back-to-back Big Ten Sportsmanship Awards in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

  • Voted National Coach of the Year an unprecedented nine times, head coach Missy Meharg has exemplified the tradition of excellence Maryland field hockey has become known for, a program with eight National Championships, 18 Final Fours and 26 conference championships - solidifying the Terrapins' position among the top programs in the nation.
  • Now in her 34th season, Meharg has earned a record of 595-151-9 (.794). She has more wins than any coach at Maryland in any sport.

  • Maryland is ranked No. 9 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches poll released Sept. 21. The Terrapins have been ranked in the top 5 in 193 of 233 polls, dating back to 1999 and every NFHCA Coaches poll, dating back to 1999.

  • The Terps are 144-50-3 (.739) all-time against Big Ten opponents.
  • Head coach Missy Meharg is 126-30-1 (.806) vs. Big Ten opponents in her 34 years at the helm of the Maryland field hockey program.
  • Since joining the league in 2014, the Terps are 59-14 in conference play, including their 15 Big Ten Tournament games.
  • The Terrapins are 52-6 (.897) vs. Big Ten teams at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Indiana is 5-3 so far this season and 0-1 in conference play. The Hoosiers lost to No. 2 Iowa, 3-0, and beat Richmond, 1-0, last weekend. Kira Curland is leading Indiana with four goals this season.
  • Maryland leads the all-time series with Indiana, 7-0. The Terrapins took both meetings this past spring, 5-0 and 3-1 in College Park on March 19 and 21. Donnelly scored three goals in the series. Bibi Donraadt and Maura Verleg each notched a goal and tallied three assists.
  • American is 4-2 so far this season. The Eagles beat Lafayette, 1-0, in overtime this past weekend. Noor Coenen leads American with four goals this season.
  • Maryland owns the series over American, 43-1. The Terrapins have won the last 17 straight matchups, dating back to 2004. Most recently, the Terrapins won 1-0 at American on Oct. 29, 2019.
