IOWA CITY, IA – Iowa netted a goal in each half, and kept Maryland at bay as the Terps dropped a 2-0 decision on the road Thursday night. The defeat moves Maryland to 4-4-4 (0-2-2) on the season while Iowa improves to 8-3-1 (2-2).
A long ball played into the middle of Iowa's final third set up the eventual game-winner for the Hawkeyes, as Addie Bundy played Hailey Rydberg for the goal in the 34th minute. Alyssa Walker added insurance for the hosts in the 85th minute, scoring off a feed from Sara Wheaton.
Quality Chances
- Maryland was credited with six shots in the game, but had a handful of quality chances on the offensive end.
- Toni Domingos nearly had her first collegiate goal in the ninth minute, collecting a ball just outside the box and firing a well struck attempt off the left foot. Iowa's keeper dove to block the ball away, and the Hawkeyes cleared the ensuing corner to keep the game scoreless.
- Tori Paul had a dangerous free kick just a few minutes into the second half, blasting a shot off her left foot that forced the Iowa keeper to parry the ball over the net. After only a couple shots in the opening half Maryland managed five in the second, but couldn't put any away as the Terps dropped their first Big Ten road game of the year. Â Â
